Box 1

These are terracotta boxes with a concave side from which emerge ovals of symbolic faces, divinities inspired by an animist principle, whose epidermis refers to natural elements such as the bark of trees, leaves or porous stones. Placed on special wooden carts, these sculptures suggest the idea of mobility, interchangeability and continuous change.

The Memory Vase

Edition of 14 terracotta vascular artefacts emulating a fake archaeology, becoming fragments of memory useful for reconstructing a hypothetical vase. In this work the artist reflects on the meaning of the history of humanity and on the meaning of remembering.

The Soul Boxes

These are 8 different sculptures made of natural terracotta or treated with specific pigments to produce aging effects. These are very singular works whose shape is inspired by that of many open boxes which, suggesting a pop-up effect, reveal different types of strongly evocative faces. Their asymmetrical and apparently casual arrangement describes a sort of small oasis within the exhibition space and resembles that of the stones in a Zen garden.

The Soul Boxes 1

These are a core of 12 works different from each other, arranged on special iron bases and designed for the company spaces of the Vetrya Corporate Campus. Made of natural terracotta, they have been modelled favouring the shape of many open boxes on the upper side from which numerous and different types of faces seem to come out, like in a pop-up, interesting for the wide physiognomic variety they offer. Oriental masks and faces, of aliens, robots, skulls, are just some of the many types of images proposed in these works which, taken together, produce contrasting sensations between wonder and repulsion. Like a Pandora's Box, the boxes contain the deepest secrets of the human soul: thoughts and reflections, unexpressed dreams and desires.

Unformed sculpture, metaphor of the ossuary, it is made up of the assembly of fragments of a body and a face recomposed into a new unit.

Screen 1

The two works emulate the structure of a traditional Japanese screen (Byōbu) composed of 6 doors each one, which was usually painted with various types of calligraphies and decorations and it was used to separate internal areas and define private spaces. Hirano transforms the screen into a large polyptych to hang on the wall, which shows abstract motifs of landscape evocation and it is used in this exhibition as a suggestive scenario to set the terracotta works.

Prophet 1

A very curious group of 6 sculptures in various colours, red, grey, orange, freely inspired by Japanese masks and mythological and popular figures, which are rooted in an imaginary full of ancient traditions, religious and superstitious beliefs. They are grotesque, irreverent and capricious creatures that can be compared to the folkloristic "demons" of benevolent nature, as well as evil.

Re-Construction

It is a work with a strong emblematic value composed of many fragments that the artist has tried to recompose favouring the shape of an ancient vase. This attempt expresses the way in which Hirano questions the impossibility to faithfully construct the objective memory of a story or personal experience, acquiring the awareness that the act of remembering is always and in any case linked to the reconstruction of a new story, since often the pieces of the "puzzle" that make up every single memory are no longer able to coincide perfectly.

Robot 1

Terracotta sculptures with a mysterious charm, wrapped in elegant and lively kimonos, which evoke multicultural suggestions between past and future. Hirano's robots come from afar: they are ancient votive statues or the plastic representations of the Saints inside the churches, women in chadors, samurai warriors or mythical creatures with supernatural powers.

Big Robot

The work reinterprets in the form the features of Pepper, the humanoid robot symbol of technological progress from Japan. Hirano's version is made of terracotta and brings together the Golem Jewish legend, a clay statue animated by Kabbalistic magic, and the futuristic idea of a reality populated by beings endowed with artificial intelligence, proposing an emblematic encounter-clash between past and future, natural and artificial, which opens up questions and reflection points of great and alarming topicality.

Small Robot

An ironic work in which the Pepper robot has been transformed into a contemporary idol and it is placed inside a plant decoration inspired by the lotus flowers of Thai and Buddhist derivation. Like the Buddha, also Pepper aims to "make people happy”, to improve their lives by facilitating relationships and connections with the outside world.

Rare Earth

It is a large screen on which is painted a fascinating landscape of clear oriental reminiscence, imbued with symbolic and spiritual suggestions. The 4 doors that compose it are arranged in succession on the wall but in an oblique position, like large doors that open onto a mysterious and unknown world.
